Since all of these words start with an 'F' and I love each one of them I couldn't resist making "Fitness Fashion Fridays" a new weekly post on the blog! I'm kicking it off this week with one of my favorite activewear brands, Outdoor Voices. In their own words: "We live by the tenet that Doing Things is better than not Doing Things, and our apparel is designed for lives spent on paths, fields, streets, and everything in between." #countmein
I have a major girl crush on founder Tyler Haney. Headquartered in Austin, TX and NYC, she's 27 years old and has developed a fashion brand that has become a contender with staying power in the activewear market. According to a recent article in Forbes (yes she is one of their 30 under 30 selections) she was turned down by around 70 investors before someone was a YES for OV. "I don't have experience on my side but I have persistence." I'd say. She wants to bring out and promote the 'fun' in fitness that in my personal opinion is sometimes lacking. As kids we run around like maniacs having the time of our lives unintentionally burning calories, why not keep doing just that?
One of the many reasons I love Outdoor Voices is because the cuts and colors are classic. My closet is full of bright, patterned pieces from other brands that I just don't gravitate towards anymore. Don't get me wrong, I'm still all about trendy mesh pieces w/rad cut outs but they better be black or I won't wear them for very long. The fabric is legit too. Quality has not been sacrificed, not one little bit.
I picked up a couple nuggets last time I was in Austin, this Asymmetrical tank is THE BEST. I mean, I'm not going for a run in it but it has a built in shelf bra so I can wear it to barre and more importantly I can wear it when it's 90 degrees outside and not die from the heat (while looking good in technical fabric that's doing it's best to hide/quickly dry my sweat).
I live in Texas now so naturally I had to get these leggings (they were limited edition for SXSW). All the y'alls y'all.
A standout on their site are the Kits. It's a few pieces sold together, a great starter collection for anyone looking to test out OV pieces. Man Repeller did a collaboration with OV on a kit last year and it sold like hot cakes. With good reason, it was badass (sorry to show you another something you can't get BUT let's all have faith that something as cool as this will happen again in the near future).
