3 Products You Need To Combat Winter Skin Woes

Winter. Skincare. Rescue. If these 3 words grabbed your attention, this post is for you!

Meet Katie, a constant friend and inspiration to yours truly, founder of friday night chronicles and in her own words about words, an advocate of the raw, the vulnerable, the depth in the seemingly simple, and most of all, the hilarious. She's taking over Oil & Grain today to share her best not-so-secret skincare tips.

In the dead of winter, most of us are not at our happiest. And neither is our face. Whatever your skin nemesis is, winter doesn’t do much to help the situation.

I should not have to worry about breakouts at an age where I’m starting to worry about my first fine lines. Frankly, I’m too young for the latter and too old for the former. Dare I say that this should be the best skin of my life!? A girl can dream.

The good news is I have discovered three products that I believe are the key to my best skin yet. After years of trying different products and skincare routines, I’ve finally found products that are working for my skin. Because I know many women who have also struggled with skin problems well into their twenties, I felt compelled to share.

While I have used certain products that definitely don’t make my skin any worse, these are the three that when used consistently, make a real noticeable difference.

1. Perfect Skin Supplement

These soft gels contain omega3 fish oil, green tea leaf extract,Vitamin E, and zinc which decreases inflammation. But the omega3 fish oil is the key ingredient here.

I used these on and off for the last couple of years. I would notice a difference and then get too lazy to run back to Community Natural Foods to spend the money on more. What kicked me in the butt was running into an old coworker who used to suffer from severe acne and thinning hair. When I ran into her she looked absolutely radiant. Her skin was clear and her hair was full and shiny. “What have you been doing!?” I asked.

“Using the Perfect Skin supplement you told me about!”

You can bet that I immediately ran over to Community and have been taking Perfect Skin ever since.

2. Nerium Age Defying Night Cream

Because my skin was always more oily than dry, I resisted night creams and anti- aging products for a long time. It just wasn’t something that concerned me. I started using Nerium 6 months ago after a friend recommended it and I’m so impressed with the results that I’m happy to pay a little more for a moisturizer than I might otherwise.

I’ve noticed a huge difference in the texture of my skin, and whenever I do have a breakout, I use a little extra of the cream on any problem spots and I shit you not, 9 times out of 10 my breakout is practically gone the next morning. Not what you’d expect from a night cream, but the results speak for themselves. I’m not asking any questions.

3. Graydon Face FoodMineral Mist

This mineral mist is my newest obsession, made by Graydon, Clinical Luxury by Nature. They believe that we shouldn’t be smearing products with chemicals, parabens and phthalates all over our skin.

It’s hard to disagree with that.

The ingredients in this mist are simple: It’s purified water blended with dissolved copper, silver and zinc ions - and nothing else.

Copper helps the production of collagen which keeps skin supple and toned, silver kills bacteria that leads to breakouts, and just like in Perfect Skin, zinc decreases inflammation and helps fight topical infection.

Graydon promises that your skin will drink up this mineral rich elixir. What I like is that I can use this mist on it’s own after a sweaty hot yoga class, or over top of my face cream to lock in moisture. You can even use it on top of your makeup to set it and achieve a dewy glow.

I believe that no product or facial alone can give us the glowing skin we want. The body is one whole integrated system so what’s happening on the inside will show up on the outside. Filling your body up with nutrients and water versus sugary treats and vodka will also have a huge impact on your skin. It doesn’t take paying a naturopath or dermatologist to know that - if you’re anything like me, you just ignored your common sense for awhile.

So drink lots of water, eat your veggies, and try these three products for the best skin of your life.

K, I can’t promise that, but I can tell you that it’s working for me!
